President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will face off in a historic debate Thursday on CNN.
It's the first debate between a sitting president and a former president. It will also be the first debate since 2020 featuring either Biden, who did not face a serious challenge for the Democratic nomination, or Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee who skipped all the GOP debates during primary season.
The last time they met on the same debate stage was in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 22, 2020. Because their first debate quickly descended into a glorified shouting match, the Commission on Presidential Debates instituted an unprecedented change: The candidates had their microphones cut off while their opponent responded to the first question of each of the debate's six segments.
